Radio Naturopath Episode 468: 2024 Thanksgiving: Gratitude, First Nation Traditions, Recipes

This week, the show was played the day before Thanksgiving, at a time where people are starting to make their Thanksgiving preparations, or God forbid, traveling to wherever they're going for Thanksgiving. I made it a Thanksgiving companion episode! I talked about various ways to experience and express gratitude, such as sincere Thank yous, writing a gratitude journal, and mindfully identifying things in your environment for which to be grateful. I also talked about honoring First Nation folks and decolonization. I also talked about some Native American dishes to share at Thanksgiving, such as wild rice dishes, quinoa, and the Three Sisters, beans, corn, and winter squash. I made both!

Radio Naturopath Episode 374: Gratitude and Health, Honoring the First Nations, Food!

This week, of course, had a Thanksgiving theme. I talked about how gratitude is good for you health. It makes you happier, reduces stress and cortisol, and helps you to enjoy your life more in general! Gratitude generates empathy, kindness, and healthy and happy relationships. Appropriate as it's the theme of the season!

I also discussed remembering that the First Nation peoples that encountered the Europeans initially were not necessarily met with friendship and cooperation, but genocide. It's important to recount that. It's good to honor the first nation people that lived in the area where you lived, learn about their culture, and even serve some traditional Native American dishes at Thanksgiving!

Then we reviewed some Thanksgiving foods and why they're good for you. More next week!

Radio Naturopath Episode 148: Kennedy Assassination, Sexual Harrassment, Healthy Thanksgiving

We talked a little about the Kennedy Assassination, since November 22, 2017 is the 54th anniversary. Followed by the 54th anniversary of ME November 28! Ron remembers where he was, and I was very soon to greet the world! I came out to say hello 6 days later. Mom remembers the kids getting on the bus in tears, while returning from a PRENATAL VISIT. Because of me! Then we got into the revelations of all the prominent guys engaging in sexual harrassment and predation. We came to the conclusion that it's not just about preventing it in the moment, but in educating boys and men about how and why not to do it in the first place. Since it's so prevalent, there's a message that it's something that men can do, or they're not being educated NOT to. So, that's where the change comes, from education! We talked about the possibility of schools, corporate education, of on line content, and even public service messages.

Then, I got into a bit about how to make Thanksgiving healthier. One approach is: it's one meal, have at it! But also, since you're going to be with family and friends, why not include some fun physical activities? Walks, hikes, scavenger hunts, football, tag, frisbee, dancing, you name it! Turkey Trots for those inclined! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
