Radio Naturopath Episode 437: Lyme-Bartonella Fatigue and Tremors, Cholesterol and Athletes
This week, we continued our saga of treating chronic fatigue of tick borne illness, and Ron's detox from cholesterol-lowering medication. I have found some energizing herbs like cordyceps and eleuthero, and that low dose lithium and the herb sida acuta are good for tremors. I talked what I'm doing to manage all these symptoms. We talked about how to help Ron with his ongoing healing from medication-induced muscle damage and cramping, including protein, magnesium, antioxidants, and milk thistle. Then I started to discuss cordyceps for energy and immune support and will continue next week!
Radio Naturopath Episode 441: More on PCSK-9 Inhibitor Myopathy, Caffeine Health Effects
This week, we unfortunately found out that Ron had to get off his bike to help his legs heal further. The PCSK-9 inhibitor may still be in his body, and when he exerts himself his muscles hurt. We are doing everything we can to speed the process of healing, including proteolytic enzymes to break down the drug, milk thistle to rebuild liver cells, and resveratrol to protect his arteries from further damage. It's going to take TIME. As for me, I rode 32 miles yesterday and feel good! My femoral jnerve pain is greatly reduced since the ride. I am assuming the ride provided positioning and circulation to get the nerve out of the way.
We then talked about negative effects of caffeine. As delicious as a good cold brew or your favorite coffee with creamer is, too much caffeine can lead to dependence, insomnia, heart rhythm issues, and digestive issues, to name a few. We get into it here!
Radio Naturopath Episode 367: My Favorite Remedies for Liver Health
Today I wrapped up the liver. That sounds odd. But, I've been talking about various aspects of this most important organ for a few weeks now. Today I talked about my favorite liver remedies, herbs, exercises, yoga, QiGong, foods, supplements that all support liver health. And I wrapped it up with an appropriate sign-off, Hepatically Yours!
Radio Naturopath Episode 366: More Liver Friendly Foods, Yoga Poses for Liver Health
Today I talked more about liver health, because it's THAT important. I talked about more foods that are good for liver health, including Prickly Pear! I also talked about some helpful supplements, and yoga poses that are good for the liver. We'll wrap up the liver next week!
Radio Naturopath Episode 365: Natural Help for Gallstones, Liver Friendly Foods
This week we went biliary! Lots of people have gallstones and pain from them, but may not be directed yet to have their gallbladder removed. So, we talk about natural ways to calm gallstone colic and possibly reduce them or allow them to dissolve and pass. Caveat: there is not great scientific support for this as a possibility, but it's worth a try, especially if your doctor has not scheduled you to have yours taken out. Plus, we move on to some foods that are healthy for your liver, arguably the most important organ in the body!
Radio Naturopath Episode 294: Getting That 2nd COVID-19 Vaccine Dose, No Flu Season, Liver Cleanse?
This week, I talked about what it feels like to get the COVID-19 vaccine, what you experience afterward, and if it's worth it. The short answer is YES! If the research bears out and this vaccine is safe and effective, it's our way out of this pandemic.
We also discussed how the flu season didn't happen. Many factors: kids not in school, everyone masking and distancing, people doing a lot less indoor gathering.
And, do you really need to do a liver cleanse? The answer is maybe. The scientific side says there's no basis for it. The natural medicine side says of course you do, based on who you talk to. I say it depends. If you eat healthfully, get exercise, watch your sugar, carbs and processed foods, and alcohol, your liver will function a lot more efficiently!
Radio Naturopath Episode 293: Visiting When You're Not Vaccinated, Liver Friendly Foods
Today we discussed whether it's a good idea to visit your vaccinated family if you are non-vaccinated, and the short answer is maybe. The vaccine isn't 100% effective, you can still transmit it, anyone under 16 can't get vaccinated at all, and transmission levels although lower are not dramatically lower. So if you visit, you still have to mask, distance, and wash. And if you're leaving Connecticut for more than 24 hours and going anywhere that's not New York, New Jersey, or Rhode Island, you need to fill out a DPH travel form when you return, then quarantine for 10 days or have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arriving in Connecticut to avoid quarantining.
We talked about how to keep your liver healthy and liver-friendly foods too!
Radio Naturopath Episode 291: Happy Imbolc! Healthy Ways to Stay Warm, Fatty Liver
I reminded people to avoid anti-inflammatories and to get rest after getting the COVID-19 vaccine for maximum effect.
Because it's another major snow day, I talked about how to stay warm naturally in the winter, from foods to eat to what to wear to hydrotherapy!
And I talked about fatty liver, an unfortunately common malady with excess consumption of starchy and sugary foods. It can be helped by diet and exercise!
