Radio Naturopath Episode 463: Chia Seeds for Health, Help for Fall Allergies
This week, I talked about fall allergies, since lots of people have them right now! Mold and mildew from damp homes and plants dying back. Dust mites are prevalent especially now that we're moving indoors, but we'll get a break when there's a hard freeze. Pets can be problematic too! And there's still some ragweed outdoors. Here's some tips to help with the season! We also talked about chia seeds, and included a recipe on how to make chia pudding. Turns out they're amazing little powerhouses!
Radio Naturopath Episode 321: Dietary Fats and Your Health
This week I talked about fats. Essential fatty acids, saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsatured, medium chain triglycerides. Certain fats are really good for your health, and certain fats really aren't. You need to eat healthy fats for cellular and body structure and to prevent inflammation. We talk about the different kinds of fats and where they're found in your food.
We also started with an update on Ron and his health, and how reducing his dose of metoprolol helped him to feel better.
Radio Naturopath Episode 302: More on J&J Vaccine, CBD for Health, and Natural Help for Asthma
This week we talked about how the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 is still very low risk compared to the risk of catching COVID-19. Having said that, if you're a woman under 50 it's probably a good idea to take the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, since they have no incidence of unusual blood clots. If you have gotten Johnson and Johnson, let your doctor know immediately if you have any unusual symptoms, especially severe headaches with blurred vision, seizures, loss of consciousness; or any severe unremitting abdominal pain. If this occurs it will likely be in the 2 weeks following vaccination. As I said, this is VERY unlikely to occur, and you're much more likely to get a blood clot sitting still on an airplane trip.
We covered more about the various benefits of CBD, such as help for pain, anxiety, depression, and inflammtion. We also talked about natural help for asthma, and will discuss this and exercise induced asthma next week too!
Radio Naturopath Episode 269: Atherosclerosis in the Aorta, Hip Bursitis
This week on Radio Naturopath I responded to two questions from listeners. The first was about reducing atherosclerotic plaque in the aorta: so the whole thing about reducing oxidative stress, eating less sugar and processed foods, drinking less alcohol, getting exercising, eating healthy fats and avoiding poor quality ones.
I also talked about hip bursitis: what it is, how it's generally treated, and how to feel better.
Radio Naturopath Episode 268: Avoiding Food Intolerances and Allergies Can Help You; Those Pesky Bumps On Your Arms
This week I talked about the various kinds of food allergy testing you can do. IgE or IgG, skin prick, blood draw, or finger stick. This can be helpful for improving many conditions, including any kind of digestive upset, skin conditions including eczema, respiratory conditions such as asthma and allergic rhinitis, joint pain, and so many more. I broke down the different types and methods of testing.
I also had a question about Those Bumps On Your Arms. I explained that it's hyperkeratosis pilaris, and that it's caused by nutritional insuffciencies. You can also do some exfoliating and apply nourishing lotions or oils, but you have to correct the nutritional issue before it improves.
Radio Naturopath Episode 200: Happy 2019! New Year's Resolutions, and Natural Help for Fertility
Start small. Focus on one resolution at a time. Go slow. Be kind to yourself! Good practical advice on how to start the new year right. Plus, some practical help for increasing fertility, naturally!
Radio Naturopath Episode 186:Patient Centered Care, Stay Healthy in the Fall, Sport Drinks, Avocados
It’s getting chilly. So this week, I talked about patient centered care: the patient comes first! LISTEN, honor their needs, direct them where they need to go to take care of your health. I also touched on those first days of fall, how to be happier despite the fading light. Get outside already! When to drink a sport drink, cuz hydration is important. Also, why avocados are good for you!
Radio Naturopath Episode 181: Hering's Law of Cure and How to Raise Testosterone, Naturally!
Today it's all about Hering's Law. It's a law in homeopathy that talks about healing occurring from the inside to outside, from top to bottom, and from most important to least important organs. It's related to Treat the Cause. The idea is that if you treat a condition externally, you'll only palliate it and may even suppress it so that it can go deeper into the body. If you're eating a food that's causing intestinal inflammation, and therefore giving you eczema, it's better to stop eating the food, heal the gut with rest and herbs and supplements and food than it is to just put some steroid cream on the eczema! From the top down: that's about healing the BRAIN, which can be the biggest obstacle to cure!
I also talk about how men can raise their testosterone naturally. Exercise, good diet, fat loss, eating good quality fat, some herbs can all help!
Radio Naturopath Episode 173: First Do No Harm, Sacha Inchi Helps You Lose Weight, Everyday Supplements, Sprouting is Good For You
Today in the Basic Principles department, we talked about First Do No Harm, using the least harmful and invasive thing possible to help with healing. Then we moved on to the MYRIAD benefits of the Sacha Inchi seed, the Peruvian Peanut! Omega 3's, complete protein, lots of fiber, you can't beat it! Great for VEGANS! I also answered the perennial question, Should I take a supplement if I'm healthy? The answer, of course, is MAYBE. Plus, why it's good to sprout, or just to eat sprouted grains, nuts, beans and seeds!
Radio Naturopath Episode 131: Interview with a Fungster, Scot Brown: All About the Ketogenic Diet for Fat Loss, Reducing Inflammation, and Neurological Health
Today we had Scot Brown, and his husband, Pilo as guests. He is originally from Plainfield, CT but has been living many years in Amsterdam. Scot discovered the Ketogenic Diet to deal with obesity instead of having gastric bypass surgery, and lost 100 lb! He got so excited he studied with Jason Fung, M.D., in Toronto, a big proponent and teacher of this way of eating. You eat a lot of healthy fat, do some fasting, and eat relatively low carb and grain free. He feels that it helps him to be joyful, in addition to all the other health benefits! Great for diabetics, neurological conditions, mental illness, and much more.
