Radio Naturopath Episode 352: LymeBytes 2022 Conference Review: All About Tick Borne Illness
Last Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22, 2022, was the first LymeBytes conference at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. It was a very informative conference with many speakers and lots of information! I learned about antimicrobials to fight Lyme and other tick borne illnesses. We talked about antibiotics, herbs like cryptolepis and cat's claw, and how mold can complicate tick borne illness. We talked about lots of therapeutics, but also the importance of simple healthy living and eating, and resting! Lyme and tick borne illness won't stay in a body that is very healthy.
Radio Naturopath Episode 313: Vaccine Mandates At Work, Tea Tree Oil and Your Oral Health
This week, I talked about mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic for workplaces. Currently due to the sharp increase in cases across the country, indoor mask mandates are being reinstituted. I got asked what if someone is vaccine hesitant and there is a mandate at their place of business. I talked about how it is currently legal for private employers to fire or not hire people who are unvaccinated. A course of action might depend upon whether the mandate is absolute or there are exceptions. I was also asked how to detox from the vaccination. The bottom line was, it's not a good idea to try to do major "detox" in the two weeks following the vaccination, as you don't want any components to leave your body. By all means, you can use some medicine to make yourself more comfortable, but if you feel the need to detox it's a good idea to wait until at least two weeks after vaccination.
I also talked about how great tea tree oil is for oral health, and basic things you can do to improve oral health.
Radio Naturopath Episode 309: SWEAT: Why It's Good For You, When It's Too Much
This week, I talked about a subject dear to my heart, and to heated folks everywhere: SWEAT. We discussed why it's good to sweat, how it helps with detoxification, how it cools you down, why it stinks, and help for making it stink less. We also talked about hyperhidrosis, that condition where you sweat too much, and the various causes and remedies for that.
Radio Naturopath Episode 236: Multiple Chemical Sensitivities: Genetics, Supplements, Stress Reduction
This week I reviewed Laura Chan, N.D.'s lecture about multiple chemical sensitivities from the NHAND conference. Lots of great information! I reviewed a couple of genetic changes and how they affect you, how stress is related to chemical sensitivity, some of the best supplements for treatment, and more. I had no idea that your HDL level is connected to how well you detoxify!
Radio Naturopath Episode 147: Everyday Detox: Tips on Keeping Toxins Out!
Everyday Detox. Things you can do most of the time to keep toxins from staying in your body. Making sure you have good probiotics on board to prevent you from reabsorbing toxins tagged for excretion! We have to live in this environment, but we can work to change it and in the meantime keep ourselves as healthy as possible!
Radio Naturopath Episode 146: NHAND Conference Redux: Detoxification, Fatty Liver, Sleep Apnea, Hormesis, Alcoholism and Depression, Lyme Disease
I just came back from the New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors conference. Can you say Information Overload? Here's some great nuggets! Get help for constipation, because you can otherwise reabsorb toxins, like pesiticides! Sleep apnea is NO GOOD. Not only can it increase chances of stroke and heart attack, but it lowers testosterone, leading to no sex drive, reduced muscle mass, and weight gain! It's important to address biotoxins, by reducing them in the community and by assisting personal everyday detox. Some people drink alcohol because they're genetically predisposed to it making them happier! For these folks, gamma linolenic acid, like in evening primrose oil, can help. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is on the rise; if it finally leads to an inflamed liver, it can lead to liver cancer! So, reduce that starch and sugar, and get exercise. Hormesis: a little is good, there's a sweet spot, and then too much is no good. The biphasic nature of dosing any compound! And the highest mortality from Lyme disease is suicide. People feel desperate, frustrated, and misunderstood. Let's get some understanding and support for people facing chronic Lyme!
Radio Naturopath Episode 137: Fat Loss, The Right Diet is Your Diet, Why and How Exercise Aids Fat Loss (Not Just Calories!)
Today I got interested in fat loss, again. There's a saying that fat loss is 70% in the kitchen, but I don't know how scientific that is. Clearly, fat loss is aided in great part by regular exercise, because people who keep weight off exercise on the average 1 hour/day. The National Weight Control Registry mentions 9 things that people who successfully keep off 30 or more pounds have in common, and it's not one specific diet! I also discuss the physiological specifics on why exercise helps fat loss, and it's not just about burning more calories. Stuff like: they weigh themselves weekly, they follow a program, they don't follow a program, they made a significant change in their initial diet. So, get moving!
