Radio Naturopath Episode 447: More Medial Collateral Care, Microbiome, Sleep and GABA

This week., I am STILL limping on that MCL sprain/mensicus issue! More interesting stuff, like having to use a hinged brace, heavy and hot in June! And more staying off the bike.  I was a lot better a few days ago and rode a couple of days and  now I'm set back; obviously not healed yet. HInged brace, exercises, rest, ice, elevation, specific exercises. Unlikely need for surgery! We also went back to discussing the microbiome, GABA, and sleep, and there are easy ways to improve sleep by eating the right foods and getting the right probiotics. We touched on help for high blood pressure and we'll pick up on that next week.

Radio Naturopath Episode 390: Eat to Increase Your Metabolism and Burn More Fat!

This week, we found out that caffeine can increase fat burning! If you don't get jitters, upset stomach, anxiety, or insomnia from it, it can be your friend. It increases fat burning, can help to prevent diabetes, and improve exercise performance. The trick is to find an amount that you can consume without getting the negative side effects. For some, it just doesn't work, but if you can safely ingest up to 400 mg/day it can help! We also found a whole bunch off foods that can increase metabolism and  help with fat burning. Protein, including fatty fish, beans and other legumes, cayenne pepper, unrefined cocoa, and more!

This week, I played a broken record: affirmed that people REALLY NEED to wear their masks CORRECTLY when they're in difficult-to-distance situations, such as grocery stores. This was inspired by several trips to local stores where I observed numerous people wearing their masks over their noses but not their mouths, at least 3 stores. I explained why this is useless. Radio Naturopath Episode 171: Naturopathic Principles: The Healing Power of Nature, Chia Seeds, Flax Seeds

It's time to get back to basics! Let's review naturopathic medicine, and the six basic  principles. We'll start this week with The Healing Power of Nature, Vis Medacatrix Naturae. I realize I like food, so I've been talking about it lately. I had no idea that chia seeds were SO high in antioxidants, but there you have it! They are energizing, help with regularity, and have omega-3 fatty acids, mostly alpha-linolenic acid. Flax seeds on the other hand, are high in lignans so they're the ones to help with women's hormonal issues. Unlike chia, they need to be ground, and are not as high in antioxidants. BOTH seeds are very beneficial for health, and you get somewhat different benefits from each!
