Radio Naturopath Episode 421: LymeBytes 2023: Help for Lyme with Mold Intolerance
On Saturday, 11-11-23 I went down to Mystic for the LymeBytes conference. This week, I give an update of some of the things I learned. This week I focused on treating mold intolerance along with tick borne illness. Mold can make it so that the patient doesn't feel like they're getting well, has a lot more fatigue, brain fog, and joint pain than if mold is not so much of a factor. We talked about ways to manage mold: from releasing it from your home, to making the body less hospitable for it, to using antimicrobials to kill it (like oregano, berberines, silver nanoparticles) to using binders to reduce symptoms while it's coming out. It's VERY involved!
Radio Naturopath Episode 358: Help for your Poison Ivy, Stool Shape and Your Health
This week it was about less fun but necessary topics. Poison ivy is no fun, super itchy, and can range from annoying to problematic to even dangerous. Here's some useful tips to deal with it naturally. Of course, if the rash is progressing over your whole body, going into your mouth, throat, nose, eyes, or genitals, it's time to go to the doctor or urgent care. Sometimes it's just safer to get a steroid pack. But if it's merely annoying and not in a dangerous spot, there's lots to try, from menthol to grindelia to clay! I also had an interesting question from Eliana, a listener in Israel. She wanted the lowdown on stool shape and consistency! So we talked about the Bristol Stool Chart and what conditions can cause various stool changes. Somewhat unpleasant but necessary. And wasn't the bathroom called the "necessary" in Revolutionary War times?
Radio Naturopath Episode 356: Choice, Food Intolerances, Toenail Fungus!
Today I talked about Canada Day, since Canada is the first place I practiced naturopathic medicine! Then I moved on to talk about my views on choice in light of the landmark overturning of Roe vs. Wade on Friday, June, 24, 2022. For me, it's about bodily autonomy and the safety and health of pregnant people. When access to abortion is denied, it negatively affects the health of pregnant people in many ways. I also talked about ways to help your toenail fungus, a great summer topic! And how to approach your food intolerances. Being a detective is the best plan!
Radio Naturopath Episode 268: Avoiding Food Intolerances and Allergies Can Help You; Those Pesky Bumps On Your Arms
This week I talked about the various kinds of food allergy testing you can do. IgE or IgG, skin prick, blood draw, or finger stick. This can be helpful for improving many conditions, including any kind of digestive upset, skin conditions including eczema, respiratory conditions such as asthma and allergic rhinitis, joint pain, and so many more. I broke down the different types and methods of testing.
I also had a question about Those Bumps On Your Arms. I explained that it's hyperkeratosis pilaris, and that it's caused by nutritional insuffciencies. You can also do some exfoliating and apply nourishing lotions or oils, but you have to correct the nutritional issue before it improves.
Radio Naturopath Episode 182: Like Cures Like and Healing Eczema Naturally!
This week our basic naturopathic principle is taken from homeopathy, which is Like Cures Like. It's that idea that if you use something in a material dose it will cause symptoms, but if you dilute it and potentize it, it will help to heal the symptoms caused by the material substance. Like if you get poison ivy, you'll get an itchy rash that is better from hot water and sore joints also better from heat. If you dilute and potentize a mother tincture so that there's way less than a molecule of substance, the resultant remedy can heal the symptoms it would have caused in a material dose! Also, we had a question about eczema and food intolerances, so we discuss how changing your diet can help; also getting the right probiotics, helpful topical herbs, and helping to reduce aggravating bacteria on the skin.
